Undergraduate Honors Thesis

My undergraduate honors thesis examined factors related to alcohol consumption using data from the Terman Life Cycle Study started in 1921 by Lewis M. Terman.  My research focused specifically on how personality dimensions from the five factor model and occupation related to alcohol use.

Here are slides from a brief presentation I gave on my thesis at the 2010 UCR Undergraduate Research Symposium. You may also download my full thesis as PDF.

This graph shows some of the variables from my thesis. The two broad occupation groups (Arts & Entertainment and Professional) and alcohol consumption were both measured in the 1950s. The personality traits (Agreeableness and Conscientiousness) were measured in the 1940s. The diamonds represent the mean alcohol use for a particular group, and the bars represent the 95% confidence intervals around the means.
